Festive Big Rigs Get Truckin’ For Holiday Convoy At Jubitz Winter Wonderland Light Show
December 21, 2011
PORTLAND, OR – A holiday tradition continued last week for the 2nd Annual Jubitz Convoy Night. Big rigs – festively decorated for the holidays – formed a convoy and paraded from Jubitz Travel Center to the Jubitz Winter Wonderland drive-through light show at Portland International Raceway. Over 20 truck/trailer rigs were creatively decorated for a competition judged by local sport and media celebrities including Blazers alumnus Jerome Kersey, 98.7 KUPL's mid-day radio host Lola "the Mother Trucker" Montgomery; Drew Carney with KGW Newschannel 8 at Sunrise; and Debra Dunn, Oregon Trucking Association President. Longtime Jubitz customer, Kevin Metcalf, Fleet Manager for Pacific Cargo Services, also served as a judge.
Sysco Portland took first place for best decorated rig, and will have its company’s name engraved on a perpetual trophy displayed among other historical trucking industry memorabilia in the Jubitz Showroom at the Jubitz Travel Center complex on N. Vancouver Way. May Trucking placed second, and Coca-Cola took third overall. “We had a great show of support from our trucking industry partners, business neighbors, and the local community this year. It’s just a fun way to celebrate the holidays in true Jubitz style,” says Fred Jubitz, President. In the spirit of helping children and families of our community during the holiday season, participants of Convoy Night donated hundreds of new, unwrapped toys which were donated to the Portland Fire & Rescue’s Toy ‘N Joy Makers.
Now in its 19th season, Jubitz Winter Wonderland is the largest drive-through animated light show in the Northwest. 100,000+ people tour the show each year to view spectacular displays of lights and animation from the comfort of their vehicles and tour buses. Since 1993, Jubitz Winter Wonderland has contributed close to $500,000 to regional charities and public schools and more than 35 tons of food to local food banks.
Jubitz Travel Center has been a fixture in the Northwest and nationally since 1958, and is consistently recognized as one of the top ten truck stops in America. Jubitz Corporation is consistently ranked among Oregon Business Magazines top 150 privately owned companies in Oregon. In addition to the Travel Center, other divisions of Jubitz Corporation include The Portlander Inn hotel, the Ponderosa Country Lounge, one of the largest Pacific Pride franchises in the U.S. (Jubitz Fleet Services), and the Jubitz AMBEST Service Center providing truck maintenance and repair services. Jubitz Travel Center is located at Exit 307 off I-5, near the Oregon/Washington border.
