Festive Big Rigs Keep On Truckin’ In Holiday Convoy At Jubitz Winter Wonderland

December 15, 2010

PORTLAND, OR - A new tradition began at the Jubitz Winter Wonderland this year, as big rigs – festively decorated for the holidays – joined a convoy and paraded from Jubitz Travel Center to the Portland International Raceway the evening of December 13th. Convoy Night marks the debut of this signature event for Jubitz Corporation in conjunction with the Jubitz Winter Wonderland light show.

A dozen truck/trailer rigs were creatively decorated for Jubitz Convoy Night in a competition judged by former Trailblazer Jerome Kersey, KUPL’s country radio talk show host Lola “the Mother Trucker” Montgomery, talk radio show host Lars Larson, 95.5 The Game’s Cat Ashenden, and Oregon Trucking Association President Debra Dunn.

The convoy included the Jubitz’s own Ambest Service Center road repair truck decorated in festive holiday lights, and a Jubitz Mobile Refueling truck donned with hundreds of red LED lights pulling Santa and his sleigh.  Sysco Foods shared their truck with Boy Scout Troop #186 from Estacada, and Coca-Cola displayed thousands of shimmering red and white lights with their signature holiday polar bear waving from the trailer.  McCoy Freightliner’s truck was adorned with a giant Christmas tree on the bobtail, and a beautifully decorated truck from the Pacific Northwest Truck Museum was driven by Frank Merrill.  Other entries included Boyd Coffee Company, 98.7 KUPL radio, and GMC Peterbilt.

McCoy Freightliner earned the Brightest Lit award, and placed 3rd overall.  Sysco took home the trophy for Best Theme and placed 2nd overall.  The Jubitz Mobile Refueling truck won for Most Energy Efficient.  Coca-Cola took grand prize for Best Decorated Rig, and will have its company name engraved on a perpetual trophy that will be displayed along with historical trucking industry memorabilia in the new Jubitz Showroom at the Jubitz Travel Center.

Several new, unwrapped toys were accepted throughout the evening and donated to the U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots program.  “We had a great show of support from our trucking industry partners, business neighbors, and the local community for our first-ever Convoy Night!  It was a fun evening, and we hope to make this a Jubitz holiday tradition,” said Fred Jubitz, President.

Now in its 18th season, Jubitz Winter Wonderland is the largest drive-through animated light show in the Northwest. 100,000+ people tour the show each year to view spectacular displays of lights and animation from the comfort of their vehicles and tour buses. Since 1993, Winter Wonderland has contributed close to $500,000 to regional charities and public schools and more than 35 tons of food to local food banks, and recently celebrated its 2,000,000th visitor.

Jubitz Travel Center has been a fixture in the Northwest and nationally since 1958, and is consistently recognized as one of the top ten truck stops in America.  Jubitz Corporation is consistently ranked among Oregon Business Magazines top 150 privately owned companies in Oregon.  In addition to the Travel Center, other divisions of the Jubitz Corporation include The Portlander Inn Hotel, the Ponderosa Country Lounge, one of the largest Pacific Pride franchises in the U.S. (Jubitz Fleet Services), and the Jubitz AMBEST Service Center providing truck maintenance and repair services.  Jubitz Travel Center is located at Exit 307 off I-5, near the Oregon/Washington border.
